Editorial Experience Progress

Making an editorial experience is a new challenge that I am definitely attempting to work through. I have many ideas for what I want to do, some harder than others as I have learned in this class to always have a backup plan. As of right now, I have not really worried about attempting to start those ideas but instead I have worried about getting to know the program. I have watch YouTube videos for reference and have just been playing but I will start work on my actually quiz today.

Editorial Experience

This will be an interesting challenge for me. I have never heard of an editorial experience nor have I used Adobe Experience Design. As I was reading up on what and editorial experience was, I learned that it could be an interactive quiz. I am going to attempt to create that, as I have never done any design like that before. As for the topic, I am tossing around ideas on something involving social distancing. It might be an interactive quiz on if you have been properly social distancing and doing your part to flatten the curve of Coronavirus. I definitely need to do more research to polish my idea more.

Social Media Graphic Improvements

Creating the Social Media Graphics for my Design for Journalists class was fun, as I love working with social media and finding a way to share my voice on the platform. There are also big issues happening in America right now, so it was a great chance to shed light on them. The constructive criticism I received on my graphics is great and I will further use it to develop my craft even more. There were many good comments, as many people liked the topic and the simplicity of my designs. Most of my critiques were on my font usage. I definitely agree that for my 1st graphic on Panic Buying I should not only use the same font, but also pick a completely different one. At the time I could not find a font that I liked for the graphic and the one I chose best fit the information at hand. I was a little shy on bolding my words throughout all 3 graphics so I would definitely go back and fix that. I will definitely remember these critiques in my next design to come.

Social Media Graphics

The Coronavirus is a life-changing, world-wide issue that is constantly evolving to make everyone wonder: What will happen next? My social media graphics focus on this topic, because in times like these we must hold onto the truth and what we do know.

Panic Buying is a serious issue going on in the midst of the coronavirus. People are buying up supplies, leaving other people who can’t afford to buy in bulk to figure out how they are supposed to get the supplies they need. Featured in the design is a shelf stock with multiples of every product, various grocery bags, and many rolls of toilet paper, as that is the most popular item to buy. I made it almost falling of the page to create the allusion that there is more beyond what is seen. I made the “NO ONE”, a different color because I am attempting to emphasize that everyone is affected by this frantic action.

In the middle of all the chaos that has been taking place, it is important to find the positive little things in life. This graphic is meant slow down time, if you will, a showcase all the things that could be done with your newfound time as an alternative to going out. I chose to keep the design simple, as I believe a clustered design would not go with the peaceful theme. I kept everything black and white as a symbol, because right now the world is indeed black and white but after accomplishing at least one thing on the list, a color little will be added to your life.

I wanted to call the attention of all in the last graphic that I created. The huge red circle with a line through it draws eye immediately there, making it apparent that something serious is being discussed within it’s lines. Many people, so far, have been taking the virus as a joke and have not really cared to follow CDC guidelines. The spring break vacationers in Florida, for example, have been quoted saying, “if I get corona, then I get corona.” This is a very toxic mindset to have. The jokes featured around the “No” symbol are basic and elementary, as a contrast to a problem as severe as this. I chose to incorporate a lot of white space in order to keep the design clean and stark to match the serious and tense feeling of the topic.

Social Media Graphic Progress

I have made pretty good progress when it comes to my social media graphics. The most challenging part i have had was not necessarily having too hard of an idea, however finding images to fit what I want to do. I have had to use the pen tool on Adobe Illustrator because of this. The only other problem I am having is finding a way for the words “Stop Panic Buying” to be seen behind the toilet paper rolls. Nonetheless, these are all minor issues and I believe the Social Media Graphics should turn out great!

Social Media Graphic

The next project in my Design for Journalist class is something I am very excited about, as I spend a lot of my time scrolling and finding different creative ideas. We are taking on the challenge of creating a social media ad. I do these often for cheerleading flyers and even though I will be using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop instead of my go to basic Instagram Story tools, I believe that I have an eye to figure out what will make these graphics stand out amongst the world of social media.

I have a multitude of ideas running through my head all focusing on a central topic: Panic Buying. With the coronavirus causing chaos and scaring many people, as it is extremely contagious and dangerous, many people have resulted to panic buying which is hurting us more. My first idea is having a person standing in the middle with their hands thrown in the air. They will be throwing up popular objects that people have been panic buying. Splatter across the top with be the simple phrase “Stop Panic Buying”. My next idea will be various empty toilet paper rolls stack on top of each other in w pile and peaking out from behind it will be the words “Stop Panic Buying”. My third idea is to somehow depict the waste caused by panic buying by showing many items from the refrigerator ending up in the trash can. I could potentially do a before and after shot. Within each I would like to work in small text as to why panic buying is the wrong solution.

Information Graphic

As an assignment in my Design for Journalists class, we had the responsibility of making an information graphic. I wanted to tackle two issues that I care about the most, the environment and fashion. I decided to create a design that shows the horrors of fast fashion and why thrifting is better. I picked the font because it look stretched out, almost a little used as a piece of clothing from the thrift store would look. I did a play on characters to make the “T” in thrifting a girl, because I thought it would add an element that would elevate the piece. I practiced my pen designing while creating this girl. I used various colors for the facts to make the design brighter, as that is what fashion is all about.

Information Graphic Progress

Originally for my information graphic assignment I wanted to tackle an issue that I normally don’t shed light upon, climate change. I had a great idea about taking an image of an Earth and depicting the change through colors hues, however I realized that it would look better on a moving design as opposed to this which is static. Therefore, I am choosing a new focus for my design. I would like to focus on the evolution of a law and society. I need to brainstorm which one would look the best.

Information Graphic Brainstorming

I will be tackling something out of my comfort zone for this next project in Design for Journalists. I will attempt making an information graph on the topic of global warming. I will use natural cool colors at first, representing the balance of Earth and then it will fade to fiery, warm colors to symbolize the drastic change in the weather. I’m not sure what images I would use, as I am not familiar on the topic so I would like to ask my peers. I may even use public speaking that advocate for advancements towards ending climate change.

GIF Critiques

The GIF Project was an enjoyable, as this time around I had more knowledge about Photoshop and was able to get an important message across about the importance of the CROWN Act. Of course, with it being my first GIF there are some things I could work on. Seeing my peers GIF I realize that even with a large number of snapshots being used, it can look like minimal. It all depends on the angles of the snapshots. However, with my GIF I could have taken out unnecessary pictures. I also agreed with my peers that my GIF needed to go slower, so you could easily take in the message. Alongside with the message, the featured words need to be big and bold. Overall, I was proud of the GIF I made and how inspirational it has the potential to be.
